Today is what?

I never thought it would be that hard…
It is very complicated to get online through my laptop. Apparently i have to download this program in order to gain access to the internet. The downloading wasn’t the problem, it only allows PC d/l. My baby is officially an outcast in the world of ethernet connection.
In another news,
i am sick. sorta. It is just a cough now. A couple of days ago it was sniffles due to the lack of rest after i landed. Took medicine so i am much better.
I will try my best to stay connected. much love.

It was a complete failure.
After leaving the airport, I felt lightheaded,a bit dizzy, and nauseous (my apologies to those who wanted me to post when I arrived. I didn’t feel so well to ask if i could get internet access nor type for that matter). I got off the plane at 2 pm and left the airport close to 3pm. Why? It seems that those who arrived at their departure airport early (I got to JFK by 7am and my plane departed at 10:10am) and checked in their luggage are most likely going to reclaim their luggage last. I stood by the conveyor belt for quite a long time.
My flight wasn’t that bad. The new gadgets Cathay Pacific has were fun to play with. I especially like the option of seeing the outside view from the pilot’s perspective. There were various movies and tv shows to watch, but didn’t watch them all. Oh yeah, did i mention that i got stuck in the middle aisle seat? It wasn’t too terrible except i couldnt’ sleep that well due to the lack of surface for me to lean my head against. Overall, my plane ride experience for the flight was fairly good. The polot landed really smooth, which I am impressed with. So, it is safe to say I am alive and well (for now, hahaha).
It is 5:30am (HK time) as I am typing this. Most likely i will need another day for me to adjust. Actually, I still can’t believe i’m on the other side of the world. It’s not sinking in just yet.
Fun Facts:
-”con” is short for contacts ion HK. It took me a while before I understood what the sells person said.
-the bubble tea here tastes the same.
-there are a lot of asian people here (this is a joke if you think i am being serious)
-i have forgotten how tall the apartment buildings are.
-i knew this but was surprised at the conjunction of the toilet and shower in a very tight space.
-the only store i saw that opens 24hrs is good ole Mickey D’s. (too bad i cut that out of my life already)
-the arrangement of the bathroom, laundry/storage room, sink (the sink is placed outside of the bathroom). and kitchen reminds me of the place i lived when i was younger.
-today is friday the 9th, but it’s thursday the 8th back home. yeah, still can’t take in this fact.

It’s 4 in the morning and i am up trying to beat jet lag before being on the other side of the world. My brother and I figured that if I stay up for the night and sleep on the plane, I might be able to adjust to the time difference in Hong Kong. I’m still not sure if this is a smart move or not. Let me get back to you on that when i land…
I have some other drawings and paintings that i did for the last day of class or just the stuff i’d been working on in class. However, seeing how my camera is not in my possession and my scanner makes too much noise, this will be postponed till i get back. It’s not a big of a deal but i was hoping to have at least one picture/drawing per post (The spring thing doesn’t count). ah, well
Just to declare…

Ah. Spring.
I love Spring.
…minus the rain.
J. C. Leyendecker
March 28, 2008
I found something simply amazing.
J.C. Leyendecker has been my favorite artist since freshmen year of college. The class had to do a report on someone we didn’t know and I happened to stumble upon Leyendecker’s art. I LOVED it. It could might as well be love at first sight. I am very thankful for that person to post up scans of Leyendecker’s work. I could only find a few that I’ve scanned or found online. In NY, there was a show with some of his paintings and I loved it even more. Although Leyendecker is unknown to most artists, Norman Rockwell actually looked up to him, imitating his style. This came to a surprise to me because how can people MISS Leyendecker’s art? It is baffling. I feel that Leyendecker’s paintings are under-appreciated whenever Norman Rockwell name comes up. Don’t get me wrong, I love Rockwell’s paintings too. However, I have to stress, have you EVER seen Leyendecker’s work?

The registration process was smooth to say the least. It was the only time in my life when my choice of classes were not closed. I think the happiest moment was knowing that I did not have to take a history class, which I had been dreading every year and wimping out of it. The only thing to do now is find an internship and all will be well.
The internship department was helpful, but it was a bit useless. The college central website they gave me did not have much listings for my preferred interests. I did find some, but mostly aimed away from my major or were freelances. My friend was more helpful finding publishing companies for internships in editorial. However, some of the internships I found are close to the deadline. With that said, I have to go through all my old drawings/paintings and upload them as soon as possible.
Here are some of my old stuff from different classes in SVA:
My first attempt in gouache paint of last year in John Parks‘ gouache class. Worked from a photo.

I will put more up in another day. Finding my old stuff is more troublesome than I thought.

I currently finished reading Safe Area Gorazde: The War in Eastern Bosnia 1992-1995, by Joe Sacco, for my Culture Survey class with Marilyn Palmeri. The interest at first was not that big, but after reading a couple of pages into it I really enjoyed it. A journalist, Joe Sacco interviewed the Muslims about Gorazde and through them he depicted the tragedies of war most of us didn’t know about. The art work itself is simply amazing and the storytelling is pretty mind blowing as well. I highly recommend it. I wish someday textbooks (history, science, math… etc) could be in comic book form so people like me could better grasp the material.
Let’s start off with…
March 23, 2008
On Friday night, my class went to our professor’s studio, Steven Assael, to do a drawing session. Came in late from work but glad that I didn’t miss out on it. Saw some of his amazing paintings, pencil sketches, drawings… Makes you want to paint. Very inspiring.
There was this painting with two models on a vertical canvas. A female sitting near the top while the male is upside down, curving down the canvas. My description of the piece fails the actual beauty of the painting. Let’s just say I love it.
Took me forever to upload that up on deviantart. Should have scan this instead of using the camera.
